Recommended tours

Enjoy the relaxing walks amidst the picturesque vineyards and along the shores of Lake Caldaro. Wine lovers will feel like paradise in the heart of the Kalterer wine region.

The charming village of Caldaro is situated in the middle of a wonderful landscape, along magnificent hills of the wine-growing region, between Lake Caldaro and the Mendelkamm. The host of this area is the cultivation of wine, which not only gives its charming character to the landscape, culture and everyday life, but also adapts the architecture to its needs.
Enjoy a tasting of the delicious autochthonous wines and take part in the rich cultural programme of the village: visit the Wine Museum, which tells you about the history of viticulture and shows you traditional tools, wine presses, wine casks and ancient bottles and glasses from the farm life. Not far from the museum, there is the market square with a baroque fountain, surrounded by historical buildings decorated with frescoes and typical oriels. Stay here for a while and listen to the bell ringing of the parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, while you look at the famous ceiling of the church, decorated with frescoes by Joseph Schöpf. A few steps further on you will reach the Windegg manor - once Windegg Castle, an Empire-style house with the Reinisch Tower. At the beginning of the 19th century, the tower was added to what is now a three-storey building.

Situated in the middle of sunny Überetsch, it offers numerous activities, but above all it is a paradise for passionate cyclists. While mountain bikers can race to their heart's content on the gravel paths up to the nearby Lakes of Monticolo, racing cyclists have an ideal challenge along the 17 steep bends that lead to the Mendelpass. The latter connects the South Tyrolean Überetsch with the Val di Non valley in Trentino with the Penegal in the north and the Roen in the south.

The Lake of Caldaro is without any doubt the ultimate attraction. Sometimes smooth as a mirror, other times moving and waving. This lake is the largest natural swimming lake in South Tyrol and at the same time also the warmest lake in the whole alpine region. It is located in the most extensive swampy area between the Po Valley and the Alps. Thanks to the mild climate, you can spend your holidays on Lake Caldaro and enjoy the warm and typically mediterranean temperatures. The clear, glittering lake water, which fills the entire boiler, reflects the ruins of the light castle, which is situated on a hill above the lake. The southern side of the lake is a nature reserve where numerous insects, amphibians and reptiles as well as hundreds of migratory bird species can be found at home and the latter can be observed during birdwatching. Nature lovers can explore the nature trail that leads along wooden bridges and pile dwellings.
