Recommended tours

The area around Welschnofen has not always been an eldorado of tourism - for centuries it was marked by rural poverty before it developed into one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Dolomites.

Picturesque alpine meadows, dense high forests and the impressive massifs of the Rosengarten and Latemar frame the popular holiday resort Welschnofen, which lies idyllically in the middle of the Eggental. But this place was not always popular: the history of the village can be traced back to 1429 - at a time when life there was secured solely by the sale of charcoal, larch resin and iron ore mining at the Latemar. It was until the end of the 19th century, with the inauguration of the Grand Hotel Karersee and the construction of the new road connections to the Karerpass, Vigo di Fassa and Bolzano, that Welschnofen became one of the most popular alpine destinations in the western Dolomites. Over the years, it has attracted famous personalities such as Winston Churchill, Karl May, Arthur Schnitzler and the Austrian Empress Elisabeth to their stays and continues to enchant numerous tourists with the impressive beauty of its surroundings, which has been part of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009.

Situated on the slopes of the 1,756 m Talt - the highest wooded mountain in Europe - Welschnofen invites you to explore its fairytale alpine landscape over numerous hiking trails, mountain bike tours or riding trails in the summer. Especially enterprising and adventurous people can also undertake adventurous climbing tours to the surrounding peaks or admire the magnificent view of the Rosengarten during a breathtaking paragliding flight. Only a few minutes away is the crystal-clear, legendary Lake Carezza, which fascinates visitors from all over the world with its beauty every year.
Those who spend their winter holidays here can look forward to fast-paced and entertaining ski runs, toboggan runs and cross-country skiing trails in the nearby ski resorts, the Carezza-Karersee ski area and the Latemar-Obereggen Ski Center.
