SILENA

SILENA, your soulful hotel. A place with a soul – a place for inspiration – a place for recreation.
Arrive and be embraced

It is here, located in the centre of the idyllic Vals mountain valley at a height of 1354 metres above sea level, surrounded by the healing plants of the high elevation moor, that South Tyrolean tradition meets the secrets of Southeast Asian wellbeing. Inspiration and recreation – the spirit of South Tyrol and Southeast Asia permeates throughout the whole hotel in accordance with the principle of yin and yang. Two concepts, apparently in opposition but made inseparable. A fusion of the differing interests of a pair of siblings. Simon and Magdalena. A designer and boutique hotel that embodies their dreams and aspirations.

A place where there is remarkable love of detail

At SILENA, the surrounding natural landscape is combined with a relaxing design indoors, providing plenty of space for the soul to unfold. The ever-repeating pattern of stylised bentgrass and cottongrass of the Vals high elevation moor, marsh plants, dragonflies and origami birds together convey the harmonious reciprocity between Southeast Asia and South Tyrol. A focus on what is relevant helps our guests to arrive, settle in and to gain that all-important sense of wellbeing.

Every encounter is unique

The Japanese 'Way of Tea' is a tradition that encourages to find yourself and to slow down. At SILENA, the Way of Tea begins as soon as you pass through our wooden entranceway. Inspiration and recreation await our guests. It evokes traditional Asian architectural elements and its dark wood radiates a sense of both authenticity and security. Here is where you start to leave the everyday behind you.

The light-filled foyer is tranquil and you can wash off the hustle and bustle of the journey in the stone fountain. The stone fireplace is the heart of the comfortable lounge with its pierced wooden sections, green plants, seating groups and illustrations of the surrounding mountains. Winding ways bounded by cosy seating niches lead past the SILENA prayer wheels. They will finally bring you to the tea bar, where seated in a cross-legged yoga-like pose, you can enjoy a cup of tea and start on your personal pathway to self-discovery and deceleration.

An adventure for the senses

The delicate structures, soft colours, warm wood, light-coloured natural stone and dimmed lighting in SILENA generate a feeling of weightlessness and deep relaxation. Southeast Asian rituals and participation in sessions such as yoga will help clear your mind. If you like, you can also exercise outdoors and come to recognise what is important in life during a deep-breathing hike on the Vals high elevation moor. Guests at SILENA can also give their creativity free rein in a specially dedicated space or retreat to the 'Moar-Herz', the 300-year-old farmhouse parlour. Your soul can expand as you practice origami techniques or paint mandalas.

A focus on the holistic

All 48 of our studios and suites are characterised by the use of defining Far Eastern elements with a contemporary finish and the combination with materials from South Tyrol, such as pine wood and smoked oak. There are other Asiatic aspects in the form of delicate illustrations of Asian plants, elegant lamps and rice paper features.

The interplay between inspiration and recreation is also reflected in our accommodation. These are thus locations where guests can retire to catch their breath. Locations that exude a sense of security and harmony. Everything has been carefully designed to come together, so that guests feel in their very soul that they are welcome. The highlights of our suites are the personal saunas, generously proportioned balconies with Zen gardens and outdoor tubs inspired by the traditional ofuro. The private meditation space – with tea set within easy reach – is the ideal place to practice your techniques for breathing and achieving tranquillity and inner peace.

Experience the power of peace and quiet

Among the highlights of the hotel is our extensive soulful spa with infinity pool, saunas, rest rooms and fireplaces at garden level and on the rooftop. Our own in-house spa product range THE PURE SILENA made using local herbs with the addition of the fragrances of Asia, such as lemongrass and green tea, help transport our guests on a journey to far-flung places.

A 40°C onsen infinity pool can be found on the roof terrace. While immersed in its warm spring water of the Vals mountains enriched with minerals from the volcanic rock, the Seis basalt, of the region around the Schlern, you will almost weightlessly be able to take in the sight of the wooded slopes of the Vals high elevation moor. All your senses will be stimulated as your body experiences warmth, revitalisation and harmony – the quiet babble of water as it runs over the lava rock, the crackle of fire and fresh mountain air cooling moist skin.

As is traditional in Southeast Asian culture, bathing in an onsen pool is preceded by a ritual cleansing of the body. In our onsen lounge suffused with light there are traditional wooden pails with water and soap ready for use. After your bath, a rest on a lounger in front of the large panoramic windows of the rest room beckons and here you can relive your sensations and become aware of a deep feeling of satisfaction – now you know you have arrived.

Soulfood fusions

And our cuisine also combines local nature with Southeast Asian influences to create soulfood for you. The ingredients are products sourced from South Tyrol and from our own cultivation – infused by the sun and the power of the mountains. Dishes created from this produce include carpaccio of winter kohlrabi with wasabi, celeriac and blue potatoes, Jerusalem artichoke soup with sweet potato crisps and brook trout with esprit Thai and pak choi. For us, it is important to accentuate the natural flavours of this fresh, healthy produce; our kitchen team obtains its inspiration for this from one of the oldest surviving cultures of the world, that of Southeast Asia.

Grounding and releasing – energising and empowering

The decor of our Southeast Asian tea bar is an intriguing contrast between light-coloured stone and dark wood, the far and the near, the cosy and the rectilinear. It is here in SILENA that Asian teas are served alongside infusions of herbs from South Tyrol. Where every individually selected teapot has its own story to tell. Tea and the associated tea rituals are integral components of the 'welcoming ceremony' at SILENA.

SILENA is a place where you can feel 'whole' again. Here you arrive – to find yourself embraced. A place for the soul.
