Between idyllic vineyards and blossoming apple orchards
Lana is situated in a wonderful location south of Merano and is an ideal starting point for numerous hikes and walks through fruit orchards, along the banks of the Waalen or into the densely overgrown, wild and romantic Gaulschlucht gorge.
The village of Lana is situated in a beautiful location, surrounded by picturesque vineyards and apple orchards, in the southern corner of the Merano valley basin. Numerous historical relics such as chapels, monasteries and churches bear witness to the historical significance of the town. This also includes the parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. This old church is considered one of the most beautiful in the country, with its wonderful stained-glass windows, the high Chorfenstern, a triumphal arch crucifix and the famous Schnatterpeck altar. The gilded shrine carved out of chestnut wood is also one of the most magnificent Gothic works of art in South Tyrol.
In addition to the many churches worth seeing, there are also numerous castles and palaces in the surrounding area, including Mayenburg Castle, the ruins of Brandis, Leonburg Castle and Braunsberg Castle, which majestically sits on a rocky promontory high above the Gaulschlucht gorge and forms an impressive contrast to the gentle landscape.
Wild herbs days and the Chestnut Trail, on the other hand, bring us closer to the high value of regional products. In addition to traditional costumes, rustic utensils and religious cabaret, South Tyrol's oldest wine press is located in the magnificent vaults of the South Tyrolean Fruit Museum. Among other things, the museum also offers detailed insights into the traditions and work of the winegrowers and fruit growers and reflects the former rural lifestyle.
Magnificent chestnut trees line the many walking and hiking trails. Trees that have always been part of the landscape and life culture of this region. At the Keschtnriggl, a traditional event named after the typical basket in which roasted chestnuts are removed from their shell by shaking, you can experience the chestnut between tradition and cuisine.
The wonderful natural landscape in and around Lana offers the ideal setting for a truly relaxing holiday all year round, which can be enriched with numerous leisure activities.
