About the event

Meadows are among the most species-rich habitats in terrestrial ecosystems worldwide. They provide a home to a wide variety of plants and animals and fulfill important ecosystem functions. However, no meadow is the same. Their composition is influenced by human use and many different environmental factors. In his lecture "Insights into the Population Dynamics of Meadows," Alois Fundneider provides an overview of how different fertilization levels, mowing frequencies, and harvesting methods affect the seed bank, seed production, and the establishment of new species in meadows. Fundneider is a botanist in the Grassland Agriculture Working Group at the Laimburg Research Center and studies the flora of meadows and pastures. The colloquium is organized by Eurac and the South Tyrol Biodiversity Platform.
