If stones speak: St. Nicholas’ Tombs
|
About the event
The funerary monuments of St. Nicholas are small, silent jewels that this excursion will bring to life. Until 1848, the churchyard, built against the rock of Mount Küchelberg, was the town cemetery. Today, the preserved monuments – many of which come from inside the church – tell the story of clergymen, aristocrats and citizens of rank, often together with their children and wives who died prematurely, and bear witness to a vision of destiny and devotion to God far removed from today's secularised world.
