About the event
Ecos De Siboney Herederos oficiales De Compay Segundo - Buena Vista Social Club
The official successors of the world-famous Buena Vista Social Club musician!
Ecos De Siboney
Máximo Francisco Repilado Muños, better known as Compay Segundo, was the legendary musician of the Buena Vista Social Club and the composer of the globally famous song “Chan Chan.” Even at the proud age of 94, he could still be seen performing on some of the world’s biggest stages. For almost 20 years, his grandchildren Ernesto, Leonardo, and Alejandro Repilado have been honoring their grandfather through music. From Compay, they learned how to perform the traditional Son authentically.
He himself wished that his “set-to-music poetry”—as he liked to call his compositions—would continue to be interpreted in his spirit. Compay personally entrusted Ecos De Siboney with the role of being his official successors (this was even documented on a CD track in Saludo Compay).
Thus the group was born, quickly gaining popularity. In Cuba, Ecos De Siboney has already received the “Premio Lucas” twice for their albums and was nominated for the “Premio Cubadisco,” the Cuban Grammy, in the category of “Musica Tradicional.” Their video Me dirás que sabroso was also awarded in the “Musica Tradicional” category.
Captivating rhythms, pure joy, and authentic Son Cubano
The group keeps the traditional Son Cubano alive while also creating their own compositions, such as the hit Tengo un Son, which has been performed and celebrated worldwide. This was exactly their grandfather Compay Segundo’s vision from the beginning: “Somos los herederos” (“We are your heirs”).
In their live performances, they play many of Compay Segundo’s compositions, such as Chan Chan, Las Flores de la Vida, El Camisón de Pepa, Orgullecida, Macusa, and La Guantanamera. Of course, they also showcase their own repertoire.
The newly announced concert promises an unforgettable evening where cultural tradition and pure musical joy come together in a unique live experience.
