Hike to the World War I open-air museum at Sas de Stria, historic war paths and stunning Dolomites views.
The hike starts at the Valparola Pass 2168 m, right after the Forte Tre Sassi war museum. The trail ascends through rocky terrain and an old war path. Through crevices, trenches, and caves, you eventually reach the summit. A stunning view of the surrounding Dolomite peaks, UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the area around Falzarego. The tunnels, walls, and trenches at Hexenstein – Sas de Stria date back to World War I. Its name comes from an old legend saying a witch once lived on its peak. The descent takes the same path back to the starting point. Sure-footedness necessary. Backpack provisions. Difficulty: medium. Length: 4 km. Duration: 08:30 am.-04:00 pm. Walking time: 3 hours.
