About Schgaguler Schwaige Hut
The Alpe di Siusi is the most extensive high plateau in all of Europe, and it also is a beautiful hiking region. However, it wouldn’t be as stunning as it is weren’t it for its picturesque huts. Why not stop here for a bit? One of these huts is the Schgaguler Schwaige which is located in an ideal location, with an unbeatable view across the scraggy rocks of the Sassolungo and Sassopiatto. It also serves exquisite food and is renowned for its unsurpassed hospitality.
Opening hours:
Summer: from May to the end of October
Winter: from the beginning of December until mid-April
Located in northern Alpe di Siusi, just a stone’s throw away from the mountain station of the Ortisei cable car in Val Gardena, the hut is located on a hill and basks in the sun of the mountain. A spacious and wide terrace is perfect for an outdoor lunch, while guests can head to the garden to sit on deckchairs, relax, and sunbathe. There is a small animal zoo nearby, where rabbits, goats, pony and yes, even lamas, are looking forward to a visit from the children.
The rustic interior is quite unique, with cow bells hanging from the walls, old photos and cups won by the host family in different ski races. The traditional Stube is perfect for passing some hours in good company, and you always end up spending more time than expected. Homemade dishes and exquisite South Tyrolean recipes feature prominently on the menus, as well as homemade desserts which are the crowning finish to your meals. A visit to the hut is well worth your time, regardless of the season, be it during summer for a bike tour or hike, or in winter for a ski run or a snow shoe excursion.
