About the Martelltal

Welcome to the "Valley of the beautiful flowers", as the inhabitants of Martello Valley lovingly call their home. Between steep slopes and magnificent mountain peaks, chamois and deer, rhododendrons and silver thistles await you in this wonderful Val Venosta valley.

The Martello Valley is part of the Stelvio National Park, a unique nature reserve characterized by breathtakingly beautiful and varied landscapes. At the entrance of this rustic valley perched high on a rocky ridge, the castle ruin Obermontani. Behind it is a true paradise for hikers, mountaineers, alpinists, but also for ski tourers and ice climbers who are looking for an adventure in unspoiled nature and want to admire the extraordinary landscapes of this region.

Following ancient paths, it is possible here to climb to high peaks or to cross promising passes and saddles that lead into the Laas valley, the Sulden or Ultental. High above the lush green meadows and orchards of the valley floor rise powerfully the impressive rock and ice walls of the Ortler group.

Numerous idyllic alpine huts serve as an ideal base for adventurous alpine tours. If you are content with less demanding excursions, you can take one of the many walking and hiking trails in the valley floor, between larch forests and pastures for a walk and, for example, the Zufrittsee with its dam around. Its emerald-green waters reflect the peaks of the glaciated mountain giants of the Cevedale, the Zufritt and the organ peaks.

In winter, the valley has an unlimited variety of sporting activities in the midst of nature and thanks to the average altitude of the area at around 1,700 meters snow is guaranteed.

The South Tyrolean biathlon center Martelltal is one of the most modern and popular biathlon facilities in Europe and has 12 km of pistes and a shooting range; Nearby there are also natural toboggan runs and a spectacular ski jump. Here you can also go ice skating or snowshoes through magical winter landscapes and make fascinating ski tours.

In addition to several charming mountain villages, such as Gand or Martell village, and the visitor center National Park House "Culturamartell" is a worth seeing destination. Here are told the stories of the valley, the culture, the peasant traditions and legends to search for happiness and the deep bond with the homeland. At the bottom of the valley and on the steep slopes, the landscape is also characterized by agriculture up to an altitude of 1,700 meters. Ideal conditions can be found here the most famous product of the region: the strawberry. Some of the most popular events in the region include the famous Strawberry Festival Martelltal, where visitors can taste the delicious fruits and choose the Strawberry Queen, as well as the sporting events Marmotta Trophy and Marmotta Vertical.
