About the Eggental
Welcome to the Eggental! Kissed by the sun, equipped with numerous hiking trails and adorned with enchanting natural wonders, this South Tyrolean region impresses both adults and children alike in every season.
Only 20 km separate the idyllic Eggental from the Mediterranean flair of Bolzano. On the way to the picturesque region, the valley divides in two at Birchabruck: A branch leads south, into the exciting Obereggen and to the Reiterjoch pass, while the other runs east, to the attractive Welchschnofen and to the Karerpass.
Once in the heart of the Dolomites, you can enjoy the breathtaking panorama that stretches between the legendary and striking mountain ranges of the romantic rose garden and the lofty Latemar. Two magnificent peaks that accompany you along all your excursions and in combination with the idyllic landscape to a magical picture, almost like a storybook, connect.
The valley itself will delight you with quaint villages that radiate pure authenticity with their traditional farmhouses and rustic mountain inns. Among the cultural highlights of the region include South Tyrol's most important place of pilgrimage, the monastery of Maria Weißenstein and South Tyrol's only star & sun shelter as well as the planetarium. In addition, it is rumored that the lowest section of the valley - a rugged, rugged gorge - inspired Karl May to write his novel "Through the Wild Kurdistan".
The Eggental offers many leisure activities throughout the year: especially in spring, summer and autumn, you can embark on an exploration tour through the imposing mountains and discover the colorful and varied landscape along picturesque hiking trails and fast-paced mountain bike tours.
Especially worth a visit to the legendary Karersee, the iridescent in different shades of blue, like a mirror at the foot of the Latemar or to the impressive earth pyramids at Steinegg. In winter, the area turns into a paradise for lovers of winter and snowshoe hikes, inviting you to admire the white, snow-covered landscape. If you like it faster, you can race down the slopes in the ski areas Karersee-Carezza and Obereggen or have fun with a fun toboggan ride.
