In the past the lake waters were used to feed the sawmills and watermills of the area. The water supply was obtained only through rainfall. During dry seasons the water levels significantly dropped. In recent years however, a 5 km-long canal runs from the Rio d'Auna, a tributary of the Talvera River, and brings fresh water into the lake.
