Tiefenbrunner - Schlosskellerei Turmhof

The 'Linticlar' estate was first documented in 1225 A.D. and the Turmhof winery today thus ranks as one of South Tyrol's oldest winegrowing estates. We - Sabine and Christoph Tiefenbrunner - represent the fifth generation to run the business, and we are proud to be able to combine the art of the winegrower with a feeling for both the traditional and the innovative, respectfully maintaining this craft while continuing to develop it further. We believe that distinctive quality and modish trends are incompatible: therefore, we make wines that have their own, clear-cut personalities that can be plainly recognized through their specific nature and character. South Tyrol's mild weather and its slightly loamy soils, with their high limestone content, together form the ideal climatic and geological basis for this.

We always work using our common sense and visual judgment, starting with restrained, quality-determined yields per acre and environmentally-friendly soil and plant protection measures, right through to variety-specific cultivation methods. This allows us to provide conditions for our vines where they can best develop in accordance with the respective wine profile. Our family possesses some 62 acres of vineyards in Niclara, Cortaccia and Magrè at altitudes of between 820 and 3,280 feet above sea level. We also buy in grapes from around 40 wine farmers in the local area. This diversity requires a careful approach to nature and extensive knowledge of the peculiarities of each terroir. We also practice sustainability with regard to our energy usage: we have been producing electricity from our own hydropower plant for a century now.

Progress for us means accompanying natural processes with the expertise of past and current generations, working carefully by hand. Together with our winemaker Stephan Rohregger, we also make sure we retain the character of the varieties and locations during the winemaking process in the cellar. In accordance with our wine philosophy, we employ four different styles, from the classic vinification in stainless steel tanks or large wooden casks to storage and aging in small oaken barrels and in the bottle. Beside our proven wine lines, Selection LINTICLARUS, Selection TURMHOF and Classic MERUS, we also offer the Selection VIGNA that presents our four best wines: they meet the strict guidelines of the "Grand Cru" and come from terroirs that are steeped in tradition, located in the Bassa Atesina and at the foot of the Sciliar massif.

Take a break in our snack bar and enjoy the enchanting Castle Park.

Our stone-pine paneled rooms and the historical 'Wolkenstein Cellar' also await you with local fare to accompany our wines. We serve smoked bacon, sausage, cheese and home-made liver pâté with farmhouse bread. After a South Tyrolean platter, you can embark on a journey through time in the Castle Park. In the second half of the 19th century, Johann Tiefenthaler, our ancestor and former proprietor of the wine estate, put his heart and knowledge into laying out the enchanting grounds and ponds. Enjoy a fairytale world of mountains, caves, grottos, lakes and islands populated with precision-crafted figures and animals from Greek mythology and biblical history.

We are looking forward to your visit!
