At Trauttmansdorff Castle near Meran, in the former holiday residence of the Austrian Empress Elisabeth (“Sissi”), an enjoyable museum experience can now be found: the South Tyrol Museum of Tourism. Surrounded by the botanical gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, it is the first museum in the Alpine region dedicated to the history of tourism in Tyrol. Visitors are invited to take an exciting journey in time through a series of lively exhibition areas that show 200 years of tourism history, told from the point of view of both travellers and locals.
