Winegrowing Museum Rametz Castle
In 1980, the Schmid family established this private museum at Rametz Castle. All of the equipment necessary for winemaking is on display on the ground floor and in the basement. The tools, some of which had sunk into oblivion, were lovingly collected and labeled by the Schmid family over the course of decades. The collection encompasses tools for working the soil, the harvest, and the transport of the grape and includes aids for pest control. In addition, there is also equipment for the cultivation and processing of grain. Since 2007, the time-honored tradition of producing speck (farmer’s bacon) has also been represented through pictures and old articles. A visit to the museum finally leads to the old basement with porphyry stone blocks and finishes at the modern wine cellar, where it is rounded off with a wine tasting.
