The Latschenkieferweg Trail on the Villandro|Villanders Alpine Pasture - Description

Marked as Latschenweg, the route is located between the Gasserhütte mountain hut and the Marzuner Schupfe alpine pasture. Here, prized oil from the mountain pine is produced in a special extraction process with an oven. On Mondays and Thursdays, visitors can observe how the pine oil is produced, along with information about the extraction process. The oil is used in curative applications with a number of different samples on display.

    Saltnerstein parking lot (1,744 m)

    From the Gasserhütte hut (1,744m, parking lot, shuttle service from Samberger Hof) follow trail no. 6/15 (signposts) in direction Mair-in-Plun-Alm pasture. After passing a man-made lake, cross the mountain pine fields and turn right onto trail no. 24 downhill to Am Rinderplatz mountain inn (1,799m). Follow the service road no. 23 westwards that joins with trail no. 15 uphill. After passing the Mair-in-Plun-Alm hut(1,860m; refreshments served) proceed northwest, through a valley and then uphill through sparse woods and pastures across a series of bends in the road. Turning left (following the signs) take the access road to the Marzuner Schupfe hut (1,933m; refreshments served). To return, follow trail no. 15 back to the parking lot.
