About Appiano / Eppan

Charming vineyards, internationally renowned wines, stately homes and historic village centers: Welcome to Appiano on the Wine Route.

In the Überetsch, surrounded by beautiful mountains, forests, meadows and picturesque vineyards, you can expect South Tyrol's sixth-largest community with a traditional wine culture that can be traced back to the Middle Ages - as their own wineries were considered a sign of prestige. Numerous castles, palaces, churches and the historic manor houses on Mount Eppan testify to these glorious times. A total of 286 historic buildings are densely packed along the trailers that lead to the steep cliffs of the Mendel Mountains.
Perched high on the Calvary, the Gleifkirche watches over with its red towers. But it is the country 's once most influential fortified castle, Schloss Hocheppan, which still bears witness to its former power with its imposing size and, with impressive frescoes, looks down on the 9 Eppan factions: the lively arcades, picturesque courtyards, shops and cafes of St. Michael; the winding streets, the pointed onion dome and the huge bells of the gothic parish church - the "cathedral in the country" and the town houses of St. Pauls; on the fresh vineyards and cool, underground wine cellar of Girlan and on the smaller towns of Frangart, Gaid, Missian, Perdoning, Unterrain and Montiggl.

Beyond the historical heritage, Eppan also has a lot to offer culturally and indulges locals and tourists throughout the year with numerous events such as village celebrations and other events around the theme of fine wines and culinary delights. In the Lanserhaus traveling exhibitions of regional and international artists are made accessible to the art-interested public and atmospheric concerts of the renowned piano academy are held.

Nature lovers and recreation seekers get their money's worth in the recreational area Montiggl. In the beautiful, dense and wonderfully fragrant mixed forests of Appiano, you can recharge your batteries and explore nature on foot, on horseback or on the bike. Gently and quietly situated in these woods are the two cleanest natural bathing lakes in Italy: the Montiggler Lakes. If you are looking for even more freshness in the summer, you will be greeted by an impressive natural phenomenon at the foot of the Gandberg. The well-known Eppan ice holes can be reached via a path through chestnut and beech forests.

If you want to go on a city tour during your stay, you can also visit the nearby cities of Bolzano and Merano in a short time to stroll under their famous arbors. The charming, picturesque village of Caldaro and the natural biotope Lake Caldaro can also be visited from here.
