About the Val Badia

Italian, German and Ladin. The latter, embodies the oldest Romansh population group of the Alpine regions. A population that has managed, to this day, to continue its culture, from the archaic language to the ancient traditions, in the unspoiled nature of the Val Badia.

Curvy and colorful hills, dense forests, cultivated farmland, high pastures and beautiful, colorful flower meadows characterize the idyllic landscape of the entire valley. Follow the numerous curves that lead you along the characteristic roads through the picturesque landscape and two nature parks: on the right side of the valley is the Puez Geisler Natural Park, which welcomes its visitors with beautiful, undulating hills at the base of ragged, jagged peaks impress white. The Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park, which is located on the left side of the valley, awaits you with its impressive mountains and snow-covered peaks, which combine in a wonderful interplay with infinitely wide flowery meadows to create a fairy-tale image, which still features white-violet daphne and Purple Erica is romantically framed.

Picturesque are also the small characteristic villages, rich in historic buildings and decorated with secluded country houses, built along steep, sunny slopes - a typical building system of the Roman era. These houses are characterized by the 2 floors built in different ways: while the lower ones were carved in stone and have frescoes on both the outside and the inside of the walls, the upper floors were built in traditional wooden style.

Corvara is undisputedly the tourist center of this region and is accordingly affectionately called the "cradle of Gadertal tourism". This place has always been known as a popular holiday destination for national and international celebrities who visit the quaint, peaceful mountain town both in summer and in winter.

Corvara is located in a large, sunny basin below the imposing massif of the Sella Group and is - thanks to the numerous Michelin stars - the center of South Tyrolean gourmet cuisine. Every year, the town is also the finish line of the Dolomiti Superbike, one of the largest sporting events in the Alps.
Not far away, in the venerable walls of Ciastel de Tor in St. Martin in Thurn, there is also the Historical Museum of Ladin Culture, whose exhibits date back to the 12th century. From here you can easily reach the Mühlwälder valley, which awaits you with its ancient buildings - witnesses of the time, which was marked by the traditional and hard agricultural work.

Continue to Abtei, the famous place of pilgrimage: Throughout the year, numerous processions to the pilgrimage church of St. Cross are organized, which lies at 2,907 m. With numerous peaks in the area such as Lagazuoi (2,778m), Cunturinesspitze (3,064m), Piz Lavarela (3,055m) or Gardenacia (2,500m), this location also offers a strategic starting point for many Trips.
