About the Wipptal

Gorgeous green alpine meadows and densely wooded mountain landscapes in the midst of untouched nature and mighty three-thousanders: The beauties of the Wipptal await you.

Starting from Vipiteno, the capital of the Wipptal, several enchanting side valleys stretch like fine veins in all directions deep into the mountain landscape. From the Fugger town, the rustic Pfitschtal stretches across vast meadows in a north-easterly direction deep into the glacier-dominated mountain landscape of the Zillertal Alps. Dense coniferous forests cover the slopes that rise steeply on either side of the valley. The unusually flat and broad valley floor forms a strong contrast to the surrounding rock faces of the three thousand meter mountains, such as the Wilde Kreuzspitze, the Grabspitze or the Hohe Wand. At the end of the valley, the views on the glaciated slopes of Hochferner fall, behind which rises powerfully the 3,509 m high summit of the high pillar.

West of Vipiteno is the community Ratschings with the valleys Jaufen-, Ratschings- and Ridnauntal. Nature lovers who long for a little rest, in the quietest of the three Ratschingser valleys, the Jaufental, just right. Near Stange is one of the most beautiful canyons in the Alps: the Gilfenklamm gorge. An adventurous path leads through the steep, overhanging marble walls. In the air lies a fine veil of millions of water droplets. Deep down, noisy roaring, rushing, and tubs cut into the rock testify to the elemental force of the water. In the valley end of the Ridnauntal, on the other hand, the Schneeberg show mine takes you back in time to the past, where you can see first-hand how the miners once worked in the cold and damp tunnels and dark shafts to mine the ore.

Hikers and nature lovers will find almost untouched natural landscapes in Pflerschtal, a magical valley northwest of Vipiteno. Its peculiarities include the high peaks of the Stubai Alps, which tower steeply into the sky on the northern side of the valley, as well as the striking dolomitic rock peaks of the Pflerscher Tribulaun.
