The village of Seis am Schlern is the eponymous place for Europe's largest alpine pasture, the Seiser Alm.
The picturesque village of Siusi on the Sciliar, a faction of the municipality of Castelrotto, forms the gateway to the Dolomites and is the eponymous place for the famous Alpe di Siusi, the largest high alpine pasture in Europe. Surrounded by enchanting forests, the village lies at the foot of the mighty Schlern massif, a mythical place and at the same time a landmark of South Tyrol.
Situated at about 1,000 m above sea level, the village is known for its pleasant climate. The small mountain village was already visited in the 19th century by artists and Russian aristocrats who were looking for some relaxation and recreation in South Tyrol. In addition to the Russian researcher Count Alexey Bobrinskoy or the writer Carl Zuckmayer, Friedrich III, the last King of Saxony, also resided here.
Numerous theme trails offer the opportunity to explore the unique flora and fauna of the Alpe di Siusi. For example, families can follow in the footsteps of the poet and knight Oswald von Wolkenstein and return to the legendary times of the Middle Ages. The Mushroom Trail, on the other hand, gives you a glimpse into the fascinating world of porcini mushrooms, chanterelles and fly agaric mushrooms, while on the geological trail you can travel through 270 million years of geological history.
In summer, the holiday resort, which is rightly appreciated as a holiday destination, is visited due to the fresh temperatures. In winter, the village of Seis is an ideal starting point for wonderful winter activities on the Alpe di Siusi, which can also be reached by cable car from here.
