About the event
SHUNSKE SATO — Violin and Direction
European Union Baroque Orchestra (EUBO)
As in many areas of human activity, musical customs have evolved over the centuries, often accompanied by significant artistic and stylistic developments. In the Baroque era, with the emergence of chamber music and symphonic music, there was no conductor with a baton: the leadership of the ensemble fell to the harpsichordist or to the first violinist, the Konzertmeister, who often also served as composer or Kapellmeister. This practice contributed to the development of the concertante style and the solo concerto, as the first violinist was typically a virtuoso of the instrument.
This is precisely the model at the heart of this European Union Baroque Orchestra concert: violin virtuoso Shunske Sato will lead the ensemble in the concertante style, bringing together some of the finest musicians from Europe's most prestigious music academies.
