Cultural discovery hike in Welsberg and Taisten
About the event
A hike that is more than nature – it is a journey through centuries of history and art. The route starts in Welsberg and leads past Welsperg Castle, the ruins of Thurn, and the lost castle of Meisenreut. In Taisten, the cultural highlight is a guided visit to St. George’s Church, built around 800 as a fortified sanctuary and first mentioned in 861. Inside, late Gothic frescoes depicting scenes from the life of Christ and the famous St. Christopher fresco. The route continues to the Erasmus Chapel, burial place of the Counts of Welsperg, featuring tombstones and memorial shields. The lovingly designed cemetery in Taisten invites a moment of reflection.
