When the Conturines cave was discovered in 1987, the bones of a previously unknown species of bear - Ursus ladinicus - were found here. At 2750 metres above sea level, it remains the highest cave bear discovery in the world. To reach the cave, which is 200 metres long, you have to climb one thousand metres of elevation gain, some of it on steep scree, but the sight is well worth it.
