International Museums Day 2026
|
About the event
A global initiative organized by ICOM (International Council of Museums) since 1977 to highlight the social and cultural role of museums and promote their diversity to a wide audience. In South Tyrol — with a focus on Bolzano — over 50 museums, collections and exhibition spaces offer free entry or special programs.
The event is linked to May 18 worldwide but is held on the nearest Sunday locally to encourage participation.
The 2026 theme
Museums are public spaces where people encounter stories, objects and each other. In times of social change and inequality, they help strengthen connections and provide inclusive environments for diverse voices.
For families
The South Tyrol Museums Association introduces a family sticker album designed to explore museums in an interactive and engaging way.
