Wet Felting Workshop

|

About the event

The Parkhotel Mondschein in Bolzano is hosting a wet felting workshop in its garden. In BaZi philosophy, July is considered the month of the sheep, and the event invites participants to slow down and observe the natural rhythms of the season with greater awareness. At the heart of the workshop are the processing of sheep's wool, traditional craft techniques, and the relationship between humans, animals, and nature.

The workshop opens with a guided sensory meditation designed to draw attention to natural materials and their origins. Participants then learn the basics of wet felting, working with local wool, water, and soap. Step by step, they discover the properties of wool and the craft processes that make this versatile natural material workable.

The workshop combines a mindful approach to handwork with traditional craftsmanship. At the end, each participant takes home a piece of wool fabric made by their own hands, as a memento of the materials, techniques, and shared experience of the morning.

The workshop will be led by Merve Bektaş, a transdisciplinary artist, designer, and independent researcher born in Istanbul. Her work sits at the intersection of design, art, ecology, and culture, exploring the relationships between humans, other living beings, and materials. Her projects have been presented in artistic, design, and academic contexts in Turkey, Italy, Luxembourg, and Belgium. Among her current projects is WOLB Wool Lab, originally launched at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano (iNEST) and now developed independently.
