About Penaud Alm

Overnight stay in hay at over 2300 metres - just one example of the countless special features of the Penaud Alm in Schnals

The Penaud Alm in the midst of the Schnals mountain scenery is one of South Tyrol's alpine jewels. The rustic alpine hut at an altitude of 2323 metres is not only South Tyrol's highest alpine farm, but with its 1200 hectares of alpine pasture, it is also one of the largest alpine pastures in Europe.

The Penaud Alm is named after its picturesque, secluded location. Nestled in the fascinating alpine landscape of the Penaud Valley in Schnals, it offers its visitors a fantastic view of the glacier peaks of the Ötztal Alps. There is complete tranquillity here, nature sets the tone, the mobile phone remains switched off.

The Penaud Alm is first and foremost not a usual guesthouse, but rather an alpine pasture with animals. Here, hospitality and agriculture function in harmony with nature and mutual respect. The alpine farmers manage to bring this guiding principle closer to their guests with a lot of heart and enthusiasm.

If you expect simple homemade food from such a rustic alpine hut, you are only partially right. The traditional South Tyrolean cuisine is refined here with a lot of heart and passion for creativity. The classic, however, is always the traditional "Brettl" with the alpine cheese specialities - there's simply nothing better to eat on  mountains!

You are also welcome to stay overnight at the Penaud Alm. Almost 20 beds are available at the hut for house guests and no one has to do without a warm shower here. In the evening and in the morning you will be spoilt with culinary delights and during the day you can experience the daily routine in the alpine dairy.
