Jewish Museum
The synagogue, documents, and religious objects bear witness to the significance of the Jewish community that was founded in Meran (Merano) at the end of the 19th cen. It brought various infrastructures to life: in 1871, the Jewish cemetery; in 1893, the sanatorium for impoverished Jews with tuberculosis; and in 1901, the synagogue and kosher hotels. From the end of the 19th cen. through the 1930s, the activities of the Jewish community were accompanied by increasing Jewish tourism. Thanks to its cultural ties with Vienna and Central Europe, important spiritual impulses and renowned personalities were brought to Meran, enhancing its reputation as an international health resort.
