31 - Giro della Sper - Description

The toponym Sper indicates a stretch of the stream Astico enclosed in the rock walls nearby the village of Carbonare. In the 30s, a hydroelectric basin was designed but never realized. The place is truely enchanting.
The interest points of this path are: the village of Carbonare, the stream Astico, the surrounding woods, the Sentiero dell’Acqua (the Water Path), the peculiar village of Cùeli with the Cuel watermill, the sawmill of Mein and the village of Tézzeli. The first part of the path is downhill, and then it develops along the stream Astico and goes uphill towards the mountain. This route requires a certain effort but you won’t be disappointed. Suitable for families with children +6/8 years old.

Directions

  • Start

    San Sebastiano - centro

Set off from the village of San Sebastiano (church), we walk through the village and take the path that develops on the left-hand side and continues downhill towards the village of Morganti. We walk by the ancient Alpine hut and then towards the valley to the village of Carbonare. Follow the signs, we have to follow a stretch of the road SS350 (pay attention). As we reach the fountain and the small church of the village Girardi, we take the narrow asphalted street that will lead us to the stream Astico.
After 600 m (see the signs) we turn left and follow the dirt track that lead us to the Sper bridge. Once crossed the bridge we access the path that takes us to the stream. We cross the wooded bridge and after walking along the stream, we reach the village of Cueli. We walk by the Cuel watermill (it can be visited during the weekend), through the village and reach the Alpine hut of Liberi. Nearby the fountain we turn right, and thanks to the medium sloping path after crossing the stream Astico, we will reach the Clama dirt track. We are in pasture area. We turn right and take the easy path to the locality of San Fermo. Then, we walk in front of the Mein sawmill, cross again the steam Astico and reach the Tézzeli village.  Once we’ve crossed the village we can take the path on the right-hand side and walk through the woods of Télder and after an uphill stretch we are back in San Sebastiano.
