862 - Montagnaga's Marian pilgrimage site – Laghestel nature reserve - Description

This easy-to-moderately-difficult tour takes you past the Madonna di Piné sanctuary and apparition site and through the Laghestel biotope.
Moderately difficult tour. From Miola, the route crosses woods on pleasant tarmac roads and reaches the hamlet of Faida. From there, a gentle climb takes you past the Madonna di Piné sanctuary to Montagnaga. On your way back, you ride through the Laghestel biotope before rejoining the road to Miola.

Directions

  • Start

    Miola

From Miola di Piné, head for the village of Faida. After the church, head south down a secondary tarmac road. Carry on across a wood and over a stone bridge. One hundred metres beyond the bridge, turn right ('Ippovia – Laghestel'). Carry on downhill until you reach a cluster of farms (Maso Sassi Grandi). From there, we recommend you make a detour to take in the Rio Negro waterfalls (take the path on the right). Carry on along the gently climbing road first to the hamlet of Erla, then to Montagnaga. After going through an underpass (under a provincial road), you reach the pilgrimage site of the Madonna di Piné. Carry on towards the site of the apparition ('conca della Comparsa'). Turn right in the direction of Puell. In the vicinity of a dump of inert waste, bear right along a dirt road. At the hamlet of Bernardi, turn left immediately behind the church. After leaving the hamlet, carry on first along a tarmac road, then on a path between drystone walls (between the Tess and Palustel localities). Follow the dirt road around the nature reserve, then leave the biotope area and take the communal road, which, after heading east for 100 m, crosses the provincial road. From there, follow tarmac roads (marked as cycling paths) across the countryside until you get back to the starting place.

Tips for the tour

This areas, hit by storm Vaia in october of 2018, have radically changed their appearance in some points: where there were expanses of wood, now there are impressive expanses of bare ground, without any trees, wich allow you to enjoy to panoramic view and open spaces never seen before.
