Anello del Monte Maggio - Passo Coe - Description
Luckily, further south, towards the slopes of Monte Maggio, you can still find quieter areas appreciated by those who more discreetly move among nature...
To illustrate the most interesting aspects of the area, we have involved our colleague Mario Martinelli, who is very familiar with these places that he has known for a lifetime.
Together we have followed a great circular route, chancing upon animal tracks, “out-of-season” flowers, artefacts from the war and much more... An example of how, also in winter, the mountains covered at a walking pace offer a multitude of surprises and stories to tell.
Such treasures make us think that, perhaps, it should be given greater consideration by those who are involved in developing tourism in the local area.

Start
Malga Zonta (alpine dairy) - altitude 1430m
From Malga Zonta head north to Malga Melegna (alpine dairy at 1550m). Along this stretch, you can take an interesting diversion as far as the former NATO base, not far away. From Malga Zonta head towards the eastern ridge of Monte Maggio (continuing to the north), following the cross-country ski trail for a stretch, and then freely entering the woods (a stretch of the summer path that is not easily identifiable). When you get close to the mountainside, where the ground becomes steeper, go uphill to the fork that separates the peak of Valscura (on the left) from Monte Maggio. From the fork, go along the easy ridge westwards, keeping the huge cross at the summit as a point of reference. On the descent, take the clearly marked paved road that returns to Passo Coe, which takes you back to the cross-country ski trails and bends round to the south-east and back to Malga Melegna. From here, you can return to the starting point in just a few minutes. -
