At the foot of the Cimerlo Towers - Description

A path in one of the most charming corners of Val Canali
In memory of Dino Buzzati, journalist and writer who was able to describe the charm and daily life of the mountains, you can find in Val Canali the places he frequented during summer for many years.

Directions

  • Start

    Fosna - Val Canali

The itinerary to reach the meadows at the foot of the Cimerlo starts from the small parking lot located in Fosna (only about ten parking spaces) 5 minutes by car from Piereni, in Val Canali, and 15 minutes from Villa Welsperg. From the parking lot of Fosna you have to continue west uphill and after just 5 minutes you will find yourself immersed in a splendid dolomitic basin. It’s the ‘Fosne’, a unique place, like a postcard. Here, some characteristic rural huts, the ‘casere’, and barns, the ‘tabiadi’, are gathered around a large boulder. From this place you can enjoy the extraordinary, splendid view of the peaks of Val Canali.
The CAI trail number 731 starts on the right and runs along the meadows of the Fosne basin to then join a forest road. You must follow it for about 45 minutes to reach the Costa meadow where it ends at a series of directions a few tens of meters from the Forcella Col dei Cistri. From this Forcella you can admire a panoramic view of the Val Canali mountain group just below the Cimerlo, with a splendid view of Cima del Coro and Sass d’Ortiga.
Going back along the forest road, after 500 meters on the left you can take the ‘Troi de Rodena’ trail, which proceeds flat. After 15 minutes you reach a crossroads, where you can also observe the place of the ancient wooden drinking troughs (laibi) rebuilt some years ago by the Park, and here you will find the directions for ‘Prà Cimerlo - Fosne’. After 10 minutes you reach Prà Cimerlo. Here, an old tabià (barn), documented since 1681 and renovated by the Park in 1998, has become ‘the Frabica of mountain writings’ with a small permanent set-up and a growing archive.
These meadows constitute a Belvedere (panoramic viewpoint) from which you can admire the peaks of the Alberghetto and the Coro. From Prato Cimerlo you can take the Tonadico Cimerlo Trail, characterized by red boundary stones, and in about 30 minutes you reach the Fosna parking lot.
