Baita Dosson and Lake Vedretta Alta tour – Val San Valentino - Description

A challenging outing through the untamed Val di San Valentino to the Dosson bivouac beneath the south face of Carè Alto with a stunning view out over Val di San Valentino.
A challenging itinerary to the small, stone Dosson bivouac situated in an alpine setting of rare beauty. The route to the bivouac runs through the dense forests of the stunning San Valentino valley, featuring one-of-a-kind sections of meadows, characteristic mountain huts, stony roads, and farmhouses at the edge of the forest. Suspension bridges, rushing streams, crashing waterfalls, steep climbs, dense forests, rocky amphitheaters, and breathtaking views characterize this tranquil valley, far from the crowds of tourists, where the beauty of the landscape is ample reward for the effort of the ascent.

Directions

  • Start

Rifugio Gorck, Val di San Valentino

Park your car at Rifugio Albergo Gorck. Continue on foot in the direction of Pian del Forno, then take trail SAT 224.
Keep to the left of the Rio Bedù until you reach the remains of Malga Coel di Vigo. Continue in the area of the narrow valley and on past grassy fields, alder trees and boulders to Valletta Bassa. Cross the bridge of the same name to the other side of the valley and head back up nearly to the level of the majestic Dosson Falls on the other side of the valley, then climb steeply up the side of the valley until you come out into the vast, rocky basin of Valletta Alta (literally: high valley).
Here, you will find an intersection of the SAT 224, SAT 248 and SAT 225 trails. Take trail SAT 224 to the right and up the grassy crest to Casina Dosson. To get to the Valletta Alta lake, follow trail SAT 248 at the previous intersection. Return to the parking area by following the same route in the opposite direction.
