Cinque Laghi (Five Lakes) – Lago Ritorto - Madonna di Campiglio - Description

Thanks to the brand new “Cinque Laghi” ski lift, you can easily cover this marvellous itinerary in some exceptional breathtaking natural surroundings. Lago Ritorto is the largest and, probably, the most fascinating of the famous 5 lakes of Campiglio (Ritort, Lambin, Gelato, Serodoli and Nambino). All you need to do to reach it is to make the 10 minute walk from the uphill station of the “Cinque Laghi”. However, despite the proximity to the ski lifts, you are immediately transported into the marvello

Directions

  • Start

    Madonna di Campiglio - Rifugio 5 Laghi (2064 m)

At Madonna di Campiglio you can take the “Cinque Laghi” ski lift to the uphill station near the mountain hut with the same name (2064 m), which is an ideal place to enjoy a slice of cake and a cappuccino.
Behind the mountain hut take trail No. 232 (to Lago Ritorto).
An easy and panoramic 10 minute walk takes you to the suggestive lake, at 2058 m , at the foot of the high Ritort and Nambrone peaks.
Stop at the lake to admire the beauty of the hollow it is set in. Just before the lake take the trail on the left and descend in the direction of “Malga Ritort” (no SAT number). The trail develops in progressive descent and soon enters an area with dense vegetation. Inside the wood continue towards “Madonna di Campiglio – Malga Ritort”. After a series of hairpin bends in the wood and various wooden footbridges, you reach the Piana di Ritort below, a beautiful expanse of flat ground with a wonderful view of the Brenta Group. The copse in the wood is followed by a forest road that leads to Malga Ritort (where you can stop if you like), passing by the beautiful viewing point marked by a large wooden cross.
Here you absolutely must stop to take a look at the cows and little calves in the nearby cowshed.
Continue along the dirt road (to the right), below the mountain dairy, until you reach a sign in the middle of a field.
Take the left in the direction of “Madonna di Campiglio” along a lane which soon turns into a trail and crosses a meadow diagonally. Enter the wood. The trail is perfectly beaten and signposted and features a gentle descending slope. After a long diagonal stretch to the north, the trail features a series of small hairpin bends and reaches a crossroads, where you must turn left for Madonna di Campiglio.
The trail is beautiful and easy and allows you to quickly reach the town, emerging near the Pappagallo Restaurant, which is another natural resting place.
Continue on the tarmac road for a short distance back to the departure point.
