Dimaro-Campo Carlo Magno - Description

From Dimaro, a town in the Valle di Sole, take the state road no. 239 for Madonna di Campiglio. The climb is regular but long and consequently tough going. The entire route, from beginning to end, is in the shade of the fir trees which line the road, which means it can be attempted even on hot days.

Directions

  • Start

    Dimaro Valle di Sole

A wide expanse of meadows in front of the Brenta Dolomites, in the XIX century Campo Carlo Magno attracted the first tourists to an area which was destined to become the pearl of the Dolomites: Madonna di Campiglio. A popular holiday area, the pass boasts one of the highest golf courses in Europe, inaugurated in 1929. A trail well worth exploring climbs up through the Val Meledrio, a natural gorge separating two enormous geological masses: porphyritic (the Valle di Sole and the Adamello-Presanella massif) and dolomitic (the Brenta Dolomites).
