Dosso di Costalta from the "Senter dei Russi" (E457) - Description

Panoramic variant to reach the renowned Dosso di Costalta, the most loved and known mountain of the Plateau, through an ancient military mule track that allows you to enjoy a view of the valley below.
Simple itinerary that mostly runs along an old military mule track built by Russian prisoners during the First World War, from which it takes the name "Senter dei Russi". It allows you to make an alternative climb to the Dosso di Costalta with a view of Lake Piazze and Mount Ceramont. For the return it is possible to conclude the tour with a ring passing through the Cambroncoi hut.

Directions

  • Start

    Passo del Redebus car park

After parking the car in the large dirt car park on the right before the Redebus bar (otherwise a little further on near the bar), take the SAT E457 path that winds along the north-west side of the Dosso di Costalta. Be careful not to take path E404 on the left at the start. The wooded path begins to climb quite steeply, but not particularly hard, up to an altitude of 1695 meters, where there is a crossroads. Continuing straight ahead and therefore keeping to the right (while on the left it is possible to detour to Malga Cambroncoi) you will reach an altitude of 1858 meters. During this stretch you can see a splendid view of the Lago delle Piazze and Mount Ceramont, above the town of Piazze. At this point, going left, you reach Prato di Campivel, on the slopes of Monte Costalta, and via a link road (path E404A) you connect to the last stretch of path E404 and reach the summit of the hill with its 1955 meters of altitude. Instead, continuing straight on until the end of the “Senter dei Russi”, the culmination is just above the Casara bivouac, on path E404. The return to the Redebùs Pass can take place on the same outward route or via Malga Cambroncoi.
