Directions

  • Start

Segonzano (car park underneath the earth pyramids)

From the car park underneath the earth pyramids of Segonzano, head upstream along the left bank of 'Rio Regnana'. The initially fairly wide road gets narrower and steeper and eventually reaches the outskirts of Piazze from where you can enjoy nice views of Lake Piazze and Lake Serraia. Head for Bedollo via Piazze, Varda, and Casei. As you climb further in the same direction, the views of Valley below become quite spectacular. Upon entering Bedollo, note a house with many agricultural tools on display (fountain). The road climbs at a constant gradient to a hamlet called 'Svaldi di Pec'. From there, follow the signage for 'Baita Alpina' (alpine hut). After entering a wood, carry on straight ahead (ignoring a number of crossroadss) until the forest road comes to an end near a water reservoir. Get off your bike in order to follow a track which soon joins an obvious path. After turning left, get back on your bike and follow an dirt road to the area called 'Dosso di Segonzano'. This stretch of the route follows a pleasant, undulating forest road that will take you to the highest point of the tour (1470 m/4,593 ft). From there, there is a gentle descent to the end of the forest road. Carry on with caution along trail C36 (the descent is steep, and there are stretches where the surface can be treacherous) until you reach another forest road. Follow it to get to the 'Santuario della Madonna dell'Aiuto' (pilgrimage site with church). From there, it's all downhill on tarmac roads, through the hamlets of Sabion and Scancio, to the parking near the pyramids.
