Downhill trail from the town Segonzano to the stream Avisio. - Description

This trail goes from the town Segonzano, passing through its little hamlets, down to the wild stream Avisio, flowing on the bottom of the valley Valle di Cembra, which is an amazing natural habitat.
This itinerary takes us from the town Segonzano to the stream Avisio, passing through some of the typical hamlets of the town (in the area of the town Segonzano there are 16 hamlets scattered on the mountain slope), which have kept the typical features of the little mountain villages. Walking across terracing fields and woods you will reach the ruins of the ancient castle Castello dei Baroni a Prato, which was the guard post for the bridge Ponte di Cantilaga, an historical crossing point of the valley, where also the famous painter Albrecht Dürer passed at the end of 5th century.

Directions

  • Start

    Segonzano church – hamlet Stedro

The starting point of this itinerary is the church of Segonzano, which is in the hamlet Stedro and can be reached in 2 minutes off the main road S.P.71. After leaving the car at the church park go down on the same paved road you used to arrive and, at the first crossroads, turn left and go down on the cobbled road. At the hairpin turn go right to cross the main street S.P.71 closed to the hotel “Alle Piramidi” (people arriving by public transport can reach the hotel “Alle Piramidi” from the bus stop nearby). Continue on the opposite side to the hamlet Saletto. At the hamlet Saletto follow the road signs to the castle Castello di Segonzano going down on the paved road. Pass the castle and reach the cemetery of Piazzo then turn right and pass by the bridge Ponte di Cantilaga (without crossing it) then continue toward the hamlet Prà until the end of the street. The way back can be the same as the way to or you can choose to go straight ahead at the cemetery, pass through the suggestive hamlet Piazzo and follow, from behind the church, the road signs for Sentiero Europeo E5 (European path E5), which will bring you back to the starting point.
