Excursion to Lake Trenta in the wild heart of the Maddalena Group - Description

A fascinating itinerary leading into the heart of the Maddalena Group, mountains that are not highly frequented and therefore silent and peaceful.
Loop excursion from the well-known Malga Bordolona and back. The itinerary is never too steep and after reaching Lake Trenta, it circumvents the namesake peak and climbs up Val Clapa and then back down to Malga Bordolona.

Directions

  • Start

    Malga Bordolona di Sotto

From the malga mountain hut, take trail 136 and follow it to Malga Bordolona di Sopra. From here, continue climbing along wide grassy slopes, which are steep in some parts, to Alplaner pass and its characteristic little stone man. From the pass, descend into the wide and flat valley of Lake Trenta (trail marker 12) which you will reach promptly. After the lake and the junction between trail 14A and trail 12, continue along the latter on terrain that becomes increasingly stony until the junction with trail marker 14. From here, you will quickly reach the saddle where the path leading directly up to Trenta Peak begins. As an alternative to the saddle, continue along trail marker 12 across large prairies to a characteristic wooden shelter. Climb down a little further, where you will encounter the first few shrubs and larches, until you reach the junction with trail marker 16, which you should climb up on the right, up to Val Clapa Pass. You will be able to admire the entire Val di Bresimo from here. Tackle the last downhill section and walk past the ruins of Malga Scalet, which bears witness to an era in which the mountains were inhabited by man after much effort, to Malga Bordolona di Sotto, the ideal place to try the delicious local food which is strictly locally sourced!
