Directions

  • Start

    Upstream Tognola Gondola Lift

Reach "Punta Tognola" using by first using the Tognola gondola lift, and then the "Malga Tognola - Cima Tognlola" chairlift. Alternatively, the same point can be reached by leaving from the Ces station using the Ces-Tognola transportation system. Follow the return route towards the Tognola ski station until following the narrow section, marked on the left hand side by protective netting. At the first left hand curve of the route, just after the end of the protective netting, leave the route to the left and ski over the thalweg and the following slope which leads down to a flat area. From here there is no obligatory route, descend the ample slopes and the larch forest below until reaching the forest road which leads to Malga Valcigolera (milepost 368). Follow the road, cross the bridge of the Rio Valcigolera, and after around 250m by the signpost for the summer route to Tognola (heading straight on towards the Ces ski station), leave the road and follow the route through the woods, following the Rio Valcigolera until reaching a bridge. Cross the bridge and follow the track to the left, which quickly comes out on the final section of the "Tre di Tognola" slope, then proceed to the valley station of the gondola lift.

required equipment

For all off-piste skiing activities, the proper apparel is strongly recommended. Skiers must bear in mind that temperatures can dip quickly and garments should also be suitable for snowy conditions (such as waterproof Gore-Tex jackets). Furthermore, gloves, cap, sun glasses and sun cream should also form part of every off-piste skier’s basic gear. It’s also important to bear in mind that tight fitting or insufficiently waterproof ski boots can cause frostbite. It’s also COMPULSARY to carry with you an avalanche rescue kit consisting of avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel (this is also available for rent). A suitable helmet and other safety equipment are also strongly recommended (avalanche airbags etc.).

Tips for the tour

Val Cigolera's ample basin is almost entirely skiable, this route represents the most classic and "safe" descent, however, as always, a minimum evaluation of the snow layer is required, given the presence of steep slopes. Furthermore, it is useful to have an ability to navigate and read the land in order to avoid taking on routes which are difficult to cross when there is lots of fresh snow.
