From Madonna di Campiglio to the Clemp farmhouses, fortresses of war - Description
From its elevated position, this fort loomed over the Campiglio valley out to Carisolo, where soldiers could surveil a fairly vast territory of strategic importance. The 40-meter-long fortress included a sniper outpost with two overlapping rows of embrasures, which are still visible to this day, overlooking the switchbacks along the road to Madonna di Campiglio. Only the outer walls of this fort and a few sections of roof remain, but this still gives us an idea of what the original structure must have looked like.

Start
Madonna di Campiglio, Ristorante Pappagallo
From Ristorante Pizzeria Pappagallo in Madonna di Campiglio, take the Giro di Campiglio trail to the south. Follow this trail only briefly until you find the trail to Clemp, a panoramic spot of historical interest for its characteristic mountain farmhouses and certain relics from the First World War, including a trench and a fort.
The trail is fairly easy and not particularly busy and provides an amazing view out over the Brenta Dolomites. For the return trip, you can follow the same trail in reverse, or you can follow a lovely dirt road down to S.A. di Mavignola, a one-hour trip that ends with the stages of the cross above the small village. From here, you can take the bus back to Campiglio or your previously parked car. -
