Hike from Rifugio Barricata to Castelloni di San Marco - Description

A trip through the history of the Ortigara peaks, sacred to the homeland.
Rifugio Barricata is located on the green Marcesina plateau, a small piece of Trentino in the larger Altipiano dei Sette Comuni, in the Veneto Region.

Directions

  • Start

    Località Barricata (1351m)

Behind Rifugio Barricata, you take the flat forest road in the direction of Malga Scura. You quickly reach the turn-off for the mountain dairy. Here you turn left on the forest road that climbs a gentle slope. You cross trail 869 and, following it to the right, you gain elevation in the woods. A few sections of path and mule track/forest road alternate, until you reach about 1700 m asl, where you cross a military road marked with trail number 842. Here, you turn left and follow this road until you intercept trail number 845. Here, you turn right and quickly climb to Castelloni di San Marco (1836 m). Here you will also find the very interesting “Labirinto dei Castelloni di San Marco”, a sign-posted itinerary that winds its way among boulders, small gorges, tunnels and gaps in the rocks. The ring route is fun and very picturesque.
To return, you follow the same route backwards.
