Hike to Rifugio Baita Tonda - Description
Directions
-
Start
Serrada
You go almost to the centre of the peaceful town of Serrada, where you will easily spot the signs for trail 136. You follow the directions for “Dosso della Martinella” (CI-SAT 136) and you follow the road uphill. You leave the town behind you. You continue along the same trail, following roads and mule tracks/paths. You gain elevation in the vegetation, and you climb pleasantly through the colours of the woods (especially charming in Autumn). Without ever deviating from the trail marked 136, you reach the top of Doss Martinella, where you will find the mountain hut.
You return along the same route.ALTERNATIVE ROUTES
You can also reach the mountain hut starting from Passo Coe, also following trail number 136, which follows forest roads and then the beautiful panoramic ridge on a path to the mountain hut, passing through the picturesque ruins of Forte Sommo Alto.
The mountain hut is also served by the comfortable ski lift facility that starts in Fondo Grande: check timetables and seasonal opening. -
end point
Rifugio Baita Tonda - Doss Martinella (1605m)
required equipment
Hiking boots/shoes. Raincoat. Telescopic hiking sticks are useful.
Tips for the tour
The nearby “Forra del Lupo” route is very interesting. It is a historical/hiking route that follows the line of the trenches which, during the Great War, overlooked the Terragnolo valleys. Info from the Tourist Information Office.
