La Forra del Lupo – The Wolf Gorge - Description

It is one of the most amazing and emotional thematic paths dedicated to the First World War (1914-1918). The route that brings the excursionist from one gorge to the other in between of the Austro-Hungarian fortifications makes this path unique as well as the wonderful landscapes and the views on Terragnolo valley, Passo della Borcola and Pasubio.
From Serrada (locality Cogola), the route (SAT137) goes uphill through Terragnolo Valley until Fort Dosso delle Somme. A spectacular panoramic view between the rock walls, in particular Forra del Lupo – The Wolf Gorge, as well as the ones on Pasubio, makes this path unforgettable.

Directions

  • Start

    Cogola Serrada

    Uphill path
Leave the car in locality Cogola, Serrada (start of the street to Terragnolo), on the left side of the big square of the bar restaurant Cogola. This is the starting point of the route. Turning right you will start the actual path (SAT137). From the beginning there is a view on Terragnolo valley. You will then get to a climbing wall and to the first trench of Tour of the Trenches.
Once you get there follow the main route (if you turn left you go back to Serrada) until you arrive at Forra del Lupo – The Wolf Gorge, here you have two possibilities: descend on the Gorge or go up on the rocks and visit the observatories. Go back on the route and follow it until you get to the large hollow of Caserme – Barracks. From here there are two different routes: the easier one that leads you to the ex military route until you get to Forte Dosso delle Somme and the harder one, with a great panoramic view that leads you to the top of dosso Smelzar. You will then have the possibility to reach the fort through a tunnel. The fort Werk Serrada, the biggest of Alpe Cimbra, this is your arrival point.

    Return
Once you visited Fort Dosso delle Somme, follow the path SAT136, walk past Rifugio Baita Tonda until you arrive at the starting point.

    THE EASIER SOLUTION
Once you get to locality Caserme and you walk past Forra del Lupo – The Wolf Gorge, the easier way to go back to the starting point is following the ex military route to get to the fort. Follow it until you can see a different route (be careful of the slippery ground), it brings you back to Serrada; once you are near the village, turn left to go back to the starting point. Keep going straight to reach the main square. In this case turn left to go back to the starting point.

  • end point
