Malga Ritort Tour - Description

A wonderful itinerary of intermediate difficulty to Malga Ritorto replete with a fantastic panorama of the Brenta Dolomites.

Directions

  • Start

Madonna di Campiglio Brenta Alta square

This itinerary is marked 964. From Piazza Brenta Alta in Madonna di Campiglio, head down to Piazza Righi and turn right. At the end of the pedestrian zone, head up to the right towards the 5 Laghi lifts, which will take you to Rifugio Pancugolo. Take the dirt road that runs along the ski slopes of the Five Lakes area until you reach the paved road near the village of Patascoss.
Turn right and follow the paved road for about a mile and a quarter (2km) until Malga Ritorto, where what is now a dirt road begins to head downward.
After two switchbacks below the malga, keep right at the fork and continue across a small stream. After about 550 yards (500m), you will reach the milk-storage hut in the village of Milegna. Be careful of the bar across the road and continue along the dirt road, which will be steeper at this point. Be careful, because here you will find another bar across the road before an open area. The dirt road continues fairly steeply downward. Continue across another stream and along the winding road through pastures and farmhouses until you reach highway SS 239. Here you will need to pay close attention to the traffic. Turn right onto the highway and continue along the paved road for about 200 yards. When you reach the village of Fratè, turn right onto a dirt road.
Head into the forest until you reach an intersection. Turn left and continue along Via Vecchia, which connects Campiglio and Mavignola.
Follow the dirt road and keep left at the next two forks in the road.
Continue under the lift and, at the first switchback, take the narrow trail on the right. This trail quickly becomes a road and eventually a paved road again. Continue up the hill, first along Via Castelletto Inferiore and then along Via Monte Spinale until you reach Piazza Righi. Cross the square along the left-hand side and then continue up along Via Cima Tosa, which will take you back to Piazza Brenta Alta.
