"Malghe" Tour - Description

A challenging itinerary with great vistas that takes you from Monte Spinale, across dirt roads and mule tracks, to visit the many malga huts located around the Campo Carlo Magno pass.

Directions

  • Start

Madonna di Campiglio Brenta Alta square

From Piazza Brenta Alta (Madonna di Campiglio), head down and to the right towards Piazza Righi and then continue along Via Monte Spinale. At the first roundabout, turn left and head to the Spinale gondola lift.
The view from Monte Spinale is priceless, a 360° panorama from the north and the mountains of Val di Sole and Brenta north, to the east and Grostè pass and the central Brenta group, to the south and Doss del Sabion and Val Rendena, and to the west and the Adamello-Presanella Group against the backdrop of the Ortles-Cevedale group.
(Follow the 966 itinerary.) Follow the dirt road that heads down to the northeast along the ski run. At the first fork, keep to the right where the route levels out for about 200 yards before descending again to the lower station of the Boch Express chair lift.
At the crossroads, keep to the left and head down past the lower Rododendro chair lift station. Continue along the dirt road, which will narrow and head steeply down through the forest. At a fork in the road, keep to the right on the dirt road, which will rise slightly to Malga Vaglianella. At the switchback just before the malga, leave the dirt road and head down a mule track that will take you north into the forest. The mule track will become a road again before making a sharp turn to the left to head south to Malga Mondifrà.
At the intersection in front of the malga, turn right to head down along the old Val Meledrio road, which you will follow for about a mile and a half (2.5km) until the village of Prà del Mazza. Turn left to highway SS239, where you will turn right and continue on for about a mile (1.5km) until an intersection on the left towards Malga Dimaro. Follow the winding paved road, which will take you up to the malga. Once there, turn left onto a trail/mule track, which will take you to Malga Darè.
Continue along the dirt road for about a mile (1.5km), then turn right onto SS239. Continue on to Rio Falzè, then turn right onto a dirt road. This road will remain flat until a bridge, at which point you will find cement ramps that take you up to Malga Vigo. Continue in the direction of the ski lifts and, once you have passed the bridge, turn left onto a narrow dirt road. After about a mile (1.5km), turn left off of this road and onto a technically challenging trail featuring mud and tree roots. At the end of this trail, turn left and, at the intersection after the bridge, turn right and follow the road in the middle of the ski run.
When you come to a crossroads, continue straight along the ski run until you get to Malga Nambino. At the malga, turn left onto a paved road, which will take you towards the right in the direction of Patascoss. (Follow 960). After the bridge, turn left onto a dirt road, which continues down along the ski runs. Keep the right as you descend until you get to the chair lift for the Canalone Miramonti ski run, where you will turn left to head back into town and Piazza Brenta Alta.
