Monte Panarotta - Description
Directions
-
Start
Chalet Panarotta, parking next to the Panarotta 2002 lift station (1770 m)
Starting from the car park, proceed on the opposite side of the car park and take the dirt road that in a few hundred metres will take you to Chalet Panarotta (mountain hut on the maps) (1782 m) standing at the feet of the Panarotta ski pistes.
Pass the building on the left and keep straight along the dirt road that gently and widely turns from north-east to north.
Ignore the crossroads along the way and keep going straight ahead.
After a long traverse along the gentle slope, you will reach the La Bassa pass (1834 m).
The pass is located on the northern slope of Monte Panarotta, separating it from the Fravort.
At the pass, close to the SAT signposts, turn right and engage what will be the day’s steepest climb.
Abandon the road and climb along the trail that leads to the summit.
The trail runs along the entire length of the northern backbone and takes you to the summit of Monte Panarotta. Near the top there are many remains of WWI structures.
After reaching the crucifix at the top (2002 m) standing among a large number of antennas, continue on the opposite side and descend towards the evident open ground located at the bottom of the trail’s steepest section, where the road coming up from the valley ends.
Just below the peak there are a cluster of buildings and a large antenna.
Stay on the road and walk down westward, passing by the arrival station of a chair lift and, further down, by the Capanna s.c. Panarotta.
After passing the Capanna s.c. Panarotta, abandon the road level with a bend and continue down the ski piste, always westwards.
The ski piste will take you quickly and easily to the meadows above the Chalet Panarotta seen on the way up.
Reach the building and a few minutes later the departure point. -
