Start
Preore
It is key not to get discouraged, but to climb up at the pace you know you are comfortable with. The start from Preore reads 530 metres on the altimeter (1297 at the finish). This is a very beautiful area of Trentino and it is worth to pace yourself, so that you can enjoy the scenery. This is the site of the Giudicarie valleys, surrounded by the mountain ranges of the Brenta Dolomites and the Adamello, with several hiking trails on the mountains. Once you have climbed on the saddle, you point the handlebars towards the village of Montagne, and the road starts to climb with stretches that reach a slope of 12 percent. The climb becomes more strenuous after 4 kilometres when you enter the hamlet of Larzana. For a while, the road climbs even higher, with a slope of 14%. You can feel the strain in the legs, the same that cyclists at the Giro d’Italia 2015 felt in the stage that started from Marostica. Having left the village, you get to catch your breath for a while, but then the road starts to climb again, with the last kilometre that never seems to end. The slope is always above 10 percent. Capanna Durmont tells us that you have reached the pass: the strain is over and leaves room for an awesome sight. If you decide to continue, the road will take you downhill to Spiazzo. Otherwise you go back down the same path, amazed that you were able to finish a climb like this one. -
