Ribor Wild - Description

Rio Ribor runs through an isolated and peaceful valley, trickling down in little waterfalls. Nothing wild about the actual bike trail, but a 1,527 metres climb.
Rio Ribor is the name of a brook originating from Laghetto delle Scaie, a small lake located a few metres over Malga Clef. It runs through an isolated and peaceful valley, trickling down in little waterfalls, all the way to Val Daone, where it flows into the slightly wider Chiese river. The Ribor Wild tour will take you through the unspoiled beauty of the Ribor valley ‒ but do not be discouraged by its name: there is nothing wild about the actual bike trail, which follows only well-trod tracks, alternating gravel roads to entirely paved surfaces. To reach the highest point of the tour, at 1,527 metres above sea level, you will only need a sufficient fitness level and, when riding an eMTB, a spare battery.

    Cologna

The trailhead is located in the town of Cologna, and more specifically in the parking lot of the tourist office on the main road leading through Valle del Chiese. A narrow paved road running alongside the Chiese river will take you through the town of Prezzo and all the way up to the Boniprati plateau ‒ whose name may be freely translated as “good meadows”. This alpine pasture stretches over a pleasantly flat area, very popular among locals for Sunday picnics. There are two mountain huts, or rifugi, here: rifugio “Boniprati” and rifugio “Lupi di Toscana”. The latter’s name, which literally translated means “wolves of Tuscany”, is a tribute to the Italian battalion of the same name that stationed here during World War I to stop the advance of the Austrian army, as visitors can read on the building’s wallboard.
After enjoying a well-deserved, energising break here, you may resume your ride on a paved path climbing steeply uphill to Malga Table, where you may purchase some local mountain cheese. The tour continues on a gravel road climbing through enchanting sceneries all the way up to Malga Clef. The area is (still) not serviced, so you may simply start making your way down: an easy gravel road will take you through the Ribor valley and the charm of its gurgling waterfalls, as they pour over the brook’s bank and dive into small but deep gorges.
Eventually, the last stretch of gravel road joins a narrow paved path that will take you through Daone and Bersone, and then back to Cologna.
