Skitour Malga Valcigolera - Description

A tour not too demanding starting from San Martino di Castrozza and arriving to one of the most scenic spots overlooking the Pale di San Martino.
The route starts very gently to then accentuate the elevation gain in the final part, with an effort amply repaid by the breath-taking view of the Dolomite group.

Directions

  • Start

San Martino di Castrozza - Parking Colbricon Express Lift

From the car park of the Sass Maor campsite (1,488 m asl), just before the start of the Colbricon Express Cableway in the Ces – Interski area, take the Valcigolera Forest Road keeping the Agility Forest Adventure Park on your left. The forest road is generally beaten because it is an itinerary used by the Troika with the horses, so in this first stretch of the route you can walk even without snowshoes. After a few hundred meters, at the first fork keep the right following Malga Valcigolera: after two hairpins, at the fork continue straight along the forest road, which returns to be slightly uphill until the bottom of the valley. At the Valcigolera bridge (1,654 m asl), continue on the left following the forest road, then turn right after about 20 meters, thus entering the valley keeping the Rio Cigolera on your right. At the end of the valley, follow the road that climbs towards the Malga along three hairpins with steep slope, to finally reach the Malga Valcigolera (1,883 m asl).

required equipment

For all ski-mountaineering activities, the proper apparel is strongly recommended. Skiers must bear in mind that temperatures can dip quickly and garments should also be suitable for snowy conditions (such as waterproof Gore-Tex jackets). Furthermore, gloves, cap, sun glasses and sun cream should also form part of every off-piste skier’s basic gear. It’s also important to bear in mind that tight fitting or insufficiently waterproof ski boots can cause frostbite. It’s also COMPULSARY to carry with you an avalanche rescue kit consisting of avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel (this is also available for rent). A suitable helmet and other safety equipment are also strongly recommended (avalanche airbags etc.).
