Snowshoe trek to Monte Cola - Description
This is a very popular itinerary and takes you, without too much difficulty, to a truly rewarding and panoramic summit.
On your return trip you can always stop at the “Serot” mountain hut or the “Le Pozze” bar and restaurant, both of which offer fine food.
Directions
-
Start
The car park beside the "Le Pozze" bar and restaurant (1,431 m a.s.l.)
From the car park, go back along the same road for about 50 metres and you’ll find the start of trail no. SAT 372B which will take you to the Serot mountain hut in about 10 minutes. From there, follow the trail that climbs up towards the farmhouse in the Calvin locality and then continue in a north-easterly direction until you come across the path that leads west to the Val d’Ilba. Continue along the valley towards the saddle that joins Hoabonti peak and Monte Cola, once you reach the crest, turn sharply right and continue as far as the cross on the mountain’s summit. -
end point
Monte Cola (2,262 m a.s.l.)
required equipment
For all snowshoe treks, suitable apparel is strongly recommended. Temperatures can dip quickly and so garments should be warm and also be suitable for snowy conditions (such as waterproof Gore-Tex jackets). Furthermore, every group member should pack gloves, a cap, sun glasses and sun cream. It’s also important to bear in mind that tight-fitting or insufficiently waterproof footwear can lead to frostbite. We also strongly recommend that all members of the group pack an avalanche rescue kit consisting of avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel (this is also available for rent). Ski poles can also come in quite useful and are therefore recommended. In the case of icy snow, it is recommended adding a pair of crampons to your gear.
Tips for the tour
At an elevation of 1,900 metres, once you’ve entered the Val d'Ilba, you’ll come across an abandoned mountain lodge which is the ideal spot for a short break.

Directions
self-arranged arrival
Take the SP65 road from Roncegno in the direction of Ronchi Valsugana until you reach the fork with sign-posts for “Le Pozze” restaurant and “Rifugio Serot”. The road that takes you up is paved butu rather narrow and can be particularly troublesome in the case of snow: make sure you have snow chains on board.
